What kind of Christians are you? Print E-mail

When I tell people I am a pastor and planting a church, I get this question a lot, “what kind of Christian are you?”  This is a great question and my answer is simple, “we are the kind of Christians who love Jesus and love people.”

Now the church savvy questioner will end up being a bit dissatisfied with my answer and ask it in another way, “what I meant to say is, what is your denomination?”  To that I can proudly say we are non-denominational, but I must hasten to add that we not an independent church.  What is the difference?

The Scripture of our Christian Faith  teaches us that each church is operated under the headship of Jesus and the leadership of Elders.  Denominations can get in the way of this leadership model and sometimes can create a situation where the local church ends up serving two masters; Jesus and a denomination.  At the same time, we are not independent because we have freely chosen to associate ourselves with some groups that share our values and vision.  By making intentional partnerships with these outside groups we gain a lot:

  • We gain outside accountability for our Elders & Pastors.
  • We gain some great support from other congregations who share our vision and values.
  • We gain accountability for how we handle our finances.
  • We gain fellowship with good brothers and sisters who are part of the larger Body of Christ

We make all these gains without compromising the nature of the local Body:

  • We maintain our submission to only one head; Jesus.
  • We maintain the integrity of the plurality leadership model taught in the Bible.

Reunion Church currently maintains several key partnerships/associations.  If you want a complete list, then please visit our Partnerships page.
